Online Poker - HOT Tips & Tricks by Anne-Marie Ronsen

Poker is played more than any other card game in the world. It has grown into a sporting event, with competitions and tournaments all around the world. Tournaments take place almost every week of the year somewhere in the world.

Thousands of players play poker daily online, and there are many good reasons why! There's no doubt that luck plays a major role in short term poker success but over the long run, poker is certainly a game of skill. Like any classic game of skill, poker demands study and practice from those who want to achieve mastery.

Online poker is a rich, complex game that combines skill, luck and intense psychological warfare. Every player competes against and interacts with every other; each player's actions influence each other player's actions.

Poker uses a standard pack of playing cards, 52 cards (there are some poker games that use more or less depending upon the variations such as adding wild cards like jokers). The card ranking is as follows; Ace (the highest), King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 (the lowest), Ace (this may also be the lowest card depending on the variations you are using, but it is usually the highest).

The cards in a pack are identical in size and shape. Each card has two sides, the face and the back. The backs of the cards in a pack are indistinguishable. The faces of the cards in a pack may all be unique, or may include duplicates, depending on the game. In either case, any card is readily identifiable by its face.

The money is put in the center of the table and is called the pot. At the end of a hand the highest hand, of the players that remain (some may have folded), wins the pot.

As a general principle, the person who broke a rule should not benefit by it, and the other players should not lose by it. An exception to this may be made in games with fixed partnerships, in which it may be felt that the partner(s) of the person who broke a rule should also not benefit. The penalty for an accidental infraction should be as mild as reasonable, consistent with there being no possible benefit to the person responsible.

Most people gamble within their means, but for some it can spiral out of control. When playing online poker, keep in mind the following:

*** Always make sure that the online casino gambling site is legal. How would you do that? You do not need to go to a government office to check that out. What you could do is search the licensing information on the casino state. If ever that you cannot find any licensing information on that online casino gambling site, do not even attempt to gamble there

*** Check the rules of the casino you are in.

*** The conditions of contest assumed to be in effect at the beginning of a deal may not be changed during that deal if any player can be injured by that change.

*** Check first the integrity and status of the online casino gambling before taking any major risk-especially financial ones.

*** Gambling should be seen as just for fun, not a way of earning money

*** Don't discuss your hand during play.

*** Act in turn. Don't act before the next player.

*** Avoid chasing losses and make decisions in a timely manner.

*** Only gamble what you can afford to lose

*** Avoid making a "string bet" or "string raise". Place the proper amount in the pot at one time.

*** Keep track of how much time and money you spend gambling

*** Keep your cards on the table.

*** Don't throw your chips into the pot. If you need help, use the deposit limits and time limits in the player protection page to control the amount you can spend

*** If you need to take a break from gambling, use the self-exclusion tools

*** A foul hand is a dead hand and cannot win any part of the pot.

*** NEVER raise your voice to fellow players, the dealer, or the floorperson.

*** Once a player has been awarded a pot and taken it in, no additional rake-off may be taken from it. A decision of the floorperson is final.

Now you know the tips of playing online poker, but applying them and learning how to bluff and read your opponents will make you a good poker player.
